Waterproof Trousers And Overtrousers - What To Look For

Waterproof trousers and overtrousers can be heavy, make you too warm and sweaty, difficult to put on and take off and if they are too tight or slightly too small they will restrict your leg movements and tire you out quicker.

The solution is to look for lightweight gore-tex pants with three quarter length side zips.

The long zips make it easy to put the overtrousers on and take them off over your boots and also allow you to vent them according to conditions.

Look no further than Berghaus Paclite hiking trousers if you want really good lightweight gear. They are not cheap so scan the internet for summer sales where you can sometimes obtain 25 to 30% discount to the normal shop price.

The only disadvantage is that they will not last forever and need looking after particularly if you are scrambling over rocks or climbing over barbed wire or hedges!!

For colder and more extreme weather consider also Berghaus Storm and Berghaus Deluge also with long side zips.

Cheaper waterproofs are available, for instance by Craghoppers, but in our opinion the Berghaus range with their long zips takes some beating.
