Visual Aids To Help You Get Home

Between us we carry several useful visual aids as follows:

A Magnifying Glass

A medium sized magnifying glass to aid detailed map reading. Some compasses have an inbuilt small magnifier but a larger glass is easier to work with as it shows a bigger part of the map.

A Maglite

For emergency use in failing light a small maglite torch is useful. If it uses the same batteries as your GPS the carrying of spare batteries is not duplicated at least on day walks.

A Head Torch

Also in emergencies a head torch is useful. The lighter the better. We bought ones weighing 25 grammes that's less than one ounce! Can you beat that?

And Binoculars

Finally at least one person in your hiking group should carry a small lightweight pair of good binoculars. Say 8 x 12 magnification. You can enjoy bird watching as well as spotting far off features to help your Navigation.
