Are Raichle boots losing ground?
We have worn several pairs of Raichle boots over the years and always found them to be light and very comfortable. They were wide fitting and had a roomy toe cap. However, the tread wore down quickly and changes in design resulted in the sole being less stiff. More recently we have experienced the sole coming away from the boot after less than two years. Whilst shopping round for replacement boots we found that some previous main suppliers had ceased to stock the brand all together. We have now heard that they have linked up with Mammut in some way. Let us hope that we will see a distinct improvement to a revamped range of boots.
In the meantime David’s wife has bought Meindl boots – Burma Lady Pro MFS, and so far they seem comfortable and well suited to mountain walking having recently summitted 13 tops over 3000 feet soon after purchase. The Meindl boot comes with a gore-tex lining and the leather upper gives good support and has a rubber rand to protect the leather. The vibram sole and air active footbed provides stiffness and good support on mountain terrain. We will let you know how the new boots perform over the next few months.
